Part 2: Snake Plant (Sansevieria Trifasciate)

This is the second post from our mini three-week series on our favorite houseplants. This week we have the Snake Plant, a succulent.
The look of this plant is what caught our eye and made it one of our favorites. Its unique, straight, and firm leaves can attract the attention of any guest in your home. They make help it stand tall, creating a strong statement. We found the size of the leaves also add a nice shade of green to the home, making it feel much more pleasant and comfortable.
The biggest advantage that this plant brings to your home is that it is a great air filter. It can filter out certain types of toxic air pollutants and even convert carbon dioxide to oxygen at night. This can help boost your indoor air quality.
The Snake Plant’s key weakness is being given too much water, as it only needs a small amount to survive. Water should only be added to the soil when completely dry. Our new Smart soil sensor can help you keep your plant in top condition by notifying you when the plant should be watered at the correct time. This will help minimize over-watering which can be damaging to it. Good soil drainage is also key for a healthy and prosperous Snake Plant so ensure that water can drain through to the bottom of its pot.

The plant also benefits when situated in bright but indirect sunlight. This will help maximize growth and plant health.
It is worth mentioning that although this is a relatively safe house plant, the leaves can contain a small amount of poison that can numb tongues. It is best that it is kept out of reach of young children and pets.
Despite the possibility of a numb tongue, the beauty of the Snake Plant makes it one of our favorites! Pair it with one our new sensors and fully enjoy what this plant has to offer by keeping it healthy and maximizing its growth.
